Coolants Temperature
No matter what type of
coolant is used, it becomes ineffective when allowed to become hot. 15š F.
over room temperature is the maximum allowable increase in coolant temperature.
IF HOT
-- IT'S NOT A COOLANT
Large coolant tanks with
a minimum of sludge and a maximum of clean, low temperature coolant are important
for an efficient wet grinding operation.
HEAT IS
AN ENEMY OF PRECISION GRINDING
When attempting to maintain
close tolerances, the temperature of the system must be controlled.
Heat causes:
- Poor Size Tolerances
- Poor Finish and Surface
Condition
- Burning
Due to:
- Part Expansion and
Distortion
- Spindle Expansion
- Excessive Abrasive
Breakdown
The correct coolant temperature
and proper abrasive specification are important for maintaining a cool cutting,
precision abrasive operation.
